River Cruises in the USA

There are river cruises in America. They don't receive as much publicity as the ones in Europe, but several options are available.

The best known river cruises in the USA are on the Mississippi River. Mississippi River cruises are available on authentic paddlewheel boats operated by American Cruise Lines and American Queen. Viking River Cruises has also announced that they will offer cruises on the Mississippi River.

Another excellent choice for a river cruise in America is the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Chesapeake Bay cruises depart from Baltimore to visit famous places like Annapolis and Colonial Williamsburg, as well as some quaint little towns along the shores of this huge bay.

Another river cruise in the US that is virtually unknown is the Florida River cruise. The cruises are out of Jacksonville and are on the St Johns River and the Tolomato River. Historic St Augustine is a stop on the cruise, but a big attraction is the natural scenery and wildlife. Passengers may see alligators, manatee, river otter, bald eagles, herons, and more. Unlike the other river cruises in America, this one operates in the winter, from November to April.
